This public garden is located in the center of a complex of buildings situated to the west of the National Library of France, at the edge of a new church. Visually connecting the garden with the spaces, facilities, and constructions that surround it depends on a particular approach to scale. The large variety of typologies present – traffic street, pedestrian street, gardens, squares – combined with the size of the complex of buildings, which corresponds to that of a large urban block, led us to approach the neighborhood as a single yet permeable urban block, whose center would be the garden. A garden, which is the space with the most domestic and pedestrian uses, overflowing into the public spaces that surround it.
A series of horizontal strata form the project: the ground, which is arranged following the geometrical pattern determined by the road layout; a layer of shrubs, which sculpt out clearings as play and other areas; ornamental orchards, which planted in a random manner impart a rhythm to the promenade; a few tall poplar trees, which frame and magnify the views facing on all sides.
