The site is one of three distinct sections of the Kander Delta plain. It calls for a large-scale landscape design that is in harmony with the striking Alpine landscape that surrounds it. The new residential neighbourhood at the heart of this delta landscape features a vast park covering 30 per cent of the site area. The project aims to amplify the existing geography and reinterpret its landscape features: the river, the delta’s alluvial deposits, the estuary and the forest. At first glance, the park resembles another bank of the delta. The gravel riverbeds are transformed into roads and pathways, whilst the landscape of the delta plain, with its meadows and alluvial deposits, becomes a public park comprising recreational lawns, river beaches and lakeside beaches. A riverbed designed to accommodate a controlled proportion of the river’s seasonal floodwaters brings this section of the delta to life, nourishing the riparian ecosystem, wetlands and grasslands.
