A garden within a garden
This memorial garden joins the historic gardens of Trocadéro, adding a new layer of meaning to the history of the area while merging with the surroundings. Rooted in landscape and spirituality, the memorial garden is an essential commemorative place dedicated to the diaspora communities descended from the victims of slavery, and to society as a whole. The Swiss River sits at the heart of the project. There, the water flows like a spring of hope and life, evoking a link with faraway places, and with oceans and seas. A lush, intimate garden unfurls around this renewed watercourse, the curved lines of the design echoing the winding riverbeds of a free-flowing, wild spring. Those who visit the garden are wrapped in nature, inspiring feelings of light and calm that create space for discovering the memorial and places of remembrance. Each river island offers a collection of perfumes, colors, and textures, creating a unique botanical experience reminiscent of the landscapes of French overseas territories. The meandering stream and river islands form a landscape that is distinctly contemporary, highly legible, resilient, and evocative.
