TEXT

The low density of the Cergy-Pontoise area gives rise to a lack of legibility. The objective here is to introduce a number of landscape structures that bring about a rapid enhancement of the qualities of its outskirts. The size of the proposed plans are nonetheless not to the full scale of what cities today can support.
Furthermore, the transformation of the landscape could well be accompanied with changes at the local level: by virtue of the spread of an experimental micro-agriculture, genuine public and utilitarian spaces can be formed. Functioning as places of passage and exchange, these places could eventually become beautiful territories where houses and farms intermingle, just like in certain European regions. The diffuse city, when it knows how to welcome and mingle together contrasting uses and meanings, can open itself onto the larger landscape surrounding, including the industrial countryside, and serve in ensuring adept and smooth transitions.
