The roof area of the Docks, City of Fashion and Design, is planned with the intention of hosting a large public and occasional cultural events. Through the constraints of its dimensions and uses, the space becomes both an accessible roof-terrace, and a mysteriously shaped landscape.
The landscape project interferes with the building's composition of volumes in uneven sections in order to multiple the number of visual planes present. The expanse of the roof-terrace, the full extent of which remains accessible and covered with oak flooring, is interspersed with a series of planted architectural protuberances. These successive geometrical volumes are covered with sedums, grasses, and wild flowers. The building disappears under the waves of low vegetation, evoking a landscape of eroded hills.
Just beyond the artificial contours of the roof, the urban context of the banks of the Seine can be taken in with the gaze. From the surrounding buildings, through the foliage of plane trees, the site appears like a spacious meadow stirred by the wind.
